Puri: The Shree Jagannath temple administration (SJTA) has reportedly sacrificed certain daily rituals of the presiding deities to facilitate renovation of Srimandir Jagamohan.
According to sources, the temple administration has not performed the Pahuda ritual of the Srimandir deities at least for three days since April 29.
Sources said the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), the public works department of the state government and the SJTA had promised before the Orissa High Court to complete Jagamohan repair by June 2. Officials of the three entities are now trying their best to speed up Jagamohan repair works.
“Officials of the SJTA had held several rounds of discussions with various servitor groups and asked them reschedule certain daily rituals of the temple to allow workers to carry out repair works for at least eight hours in a day. Servitors had proposed to spare six hours for Jagamohan renovation,” said a source.
According to sources, the temple administration did not perform the Pahuda ritual of the presiding deities May 1, 2 and 4 to facilitate Jagamohan renovation. Moreover, servitors faced problems to perform the evening rituals of the deities in these three days.
“The Pahuda ritual of the deities was abandoned for three days to make way for repair works at Jagamohan. The renovation of Jagamohan was abandoned for many days due to absence of cooperation among the ASI, public works department and the SJTA. Now, they are expediting work by sacrificing some daily rituals,” said a servitor.
