Skill Development certificates distributed

BHUBANESWAR: On the occasion of the Green Skill Development Programme (GSDP) certificate distribution, a function was organised at ENVIS Hub, Centre for Environmental Studies at RPRC, Dr. Pranakrushna Parija Hall here Saturday.

Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary, Forest & Environment Department, Government of Odisha –cum- Chairman, State ENVIS Hub inaugurated the programme as the chief guest.

Ashutosh Debata, Director, CES-cum-Coordinator, State ENVIS Hub, presided over the meeting. Other dignitaries present in the meeting were K. Murugesan, IFS, Director, Environment-cum-Spl. Secretary, Forest & Environment Department, Government of Odisha, Gaurav, Scientist in Charge, Regional Museum of Natural History, Bhubaneswar; Nihar Ranjan Sahu, Chief Environment Engineer, State Pollution Control Board, Odisha as honorable guests. And other officials of CES were also present on the occasion.

On the occasion, the Additional Chief Secretary also welcomed all the trainees and expressed his pleasure knowing that all the students have completed respective courses successfully under the guidance and continuous efforts of Director, CES and his staff since last four months. During the interaction with the trainees, he also narrated about the future scope of these courses in different private sector/ companies, mines, hotels, sanctuary and tourist places among others.

Speaking on the occasion addl. Chief Secretary explained the hazards of  plastic wastes consequences and emphasised effective restriction on use of single use plastic product, all types of polythene, thermo-cool, prevention of littering of plastic at the unset of cities and villages, river front and beach sites. He also stressed observation of ban on plastic-free fairs.

He emphasised on use of alternative item of plastic in way of life. He stressed on the ban implemented by the state government on the use of plastic bags, polythene and single use plastic in the state from October 2, 2018. To begin with, the ban was imposed in six cities namely, Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Berhampur, Rourkela, Puri and Sambalpur. But shortly it will be extended to all places of the state.

On the occasion, a booklet on ‘Journey of Green Skill Development programme in Odisha’ was inaugurated by the Addl. Chief Secretary. He then distributed the certificates to trainees during the occasion. The programme ended successfully with vote of thanks offered by Pravat Mohan Dash, Programme Officer, Centre for Environmental Studies.
