Small-time confectioner in Bhadrak receives Rs 72 lakh GST evasion notice from AP Sales Tax Dept

Bhadrak: A Bhadrak based confectioner has received a tax evasion notice from Andhra Pradesh Sales Tax Department that accuses him of evading GST amounting to Rs 72 lakh.

Meanwhile, acting on the direction in the notice, the confectioner’s UCO Bank savings account has been frozen.

The confectioner in question is Abhijit Puntia – a small sweet stall owner from Kothar village under Dhamnagar block in Bhadrak district.

A small-time confectioner, Abhijit was taken aback after receiving the notice. The Asurali branch of UCO Bank had received the notice from the GST Department in Andhra Pradesh. In the notice, it was mentioned that Abhijit Traders and Priya & Co. has evaded tax to the tune of Rs 72,19,627. In the letter, the bank had been directed to freeze his bank accounts.

Abhijit was surprised to get the notice and come to know that his savings account had been frozen. Unaware of GST, he immediately contacted UCO Bank officials.

Abhijit then contacted the Bhadrak GST officials who told him that it is a case of cybercrime. After learning about the incident, he lodged a report at Dhusuri police station alleging that someone has deliberately implicated him in the tax evasion case. Besides, he has also requested the bank to reactivate his savings account.
