Soon expensive treatments will be free of cost in SCB

Cuttack: In a significant move, the State government has taken yet another initiative to enhance the healthcare facilities.

Under the ‘Nidan O Sahay’ scheme, treatment of many diseases are being done, and now SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack will soon be adding more feathers to its hat by also carrying expensive treatment free of cost.

This decision was taken during a high-level meeting at the state secretariat Wednesday. The free of cost treatment will be available for double procedure endoscopy, PTCA and stenting of cardiology, SDP of transfusion medicine and open heart surgery.

For the double procedure endoscopy test, the patients have to deposit user’s fee of Rs 10,000. Through the test the doctor traces the problem in your intestine. Between January to December last year, 60 patients have done the double procedure endoscopy test. Similarly, for the PTCA and stenting, patients deposit Rs 30,000 as user’s fee following which the test is conducted to know any problems related with arteries. As many as 814 patients have undergone this test. Patients who come for SDP test will not be charged hereafter.

SDP is conducted only to extract blood platelets from blood and it is the major requirement of patients suffering from cancer. To avail a unit of SDP, people have to deposit Rs 10,000. Last year, 25 people received SDP.

A proposal was also tabled to make open heart surgeries free of cost. For this, patients deposit a user’s fee of Rs 10,000 and last year open heart surgery was performed on 150 patients at the hospital.
