Komna, April 2: Police Thursday arrested a sorcerer on the charge of raping a woman at her house in Agren under Komna police limits in Nuapada district. The accused was identified as Jadumani Rauti (35).
Though the incident had taken place March 22, it came to light after the woman and her family members lodged a complaint Thursday. Acting on the complaint, police registered a case under Sections 452 and 376 of the IPC.
Police said the woman approached the sorcerer after she experienced irregularity in her menstrual process. Jadumani went to the woman’s house March 22 and performed some rituals to ‘solve’ her problems.
The next day, Jadumani again went to the woman’s house on the pretext of performing some more rituals and made sexual advances towards her as her family members were absent. Though the victim put up a stiff resistance, the accused raped her and injured her private parts before leaving the house. Despite experiencing severe pain, the woman did not inform the matter to her family members fearing social stigma.
However, as the nvictim’s condition aggravated, she narrated her ordeal to her family members who lodged a
police complaint.
After arresting Jadumani, police
admitted the woman to the local
community health centre. Police said further investigation into the case
is under way.
