Sorcery practice in Angul DHH to cure snakebite victim

Angul: Tension ran high at Angul district hospital premises after a sorcerer was spotted performing rituals and traditional prayers in a bid to cure a snakebite victim in the hospital Wednesday.

When contacted, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) Rabichandra Gadnayak said he was unaware of the incident. “We will look into the matter and take necessary action. Lack of awareness is the main reason
of such incidents,” he added.

According to reports, Bijay Pradhan (45) of Kankarei area was bitten by a poisonous snake following which family members admitted him to Angul DHH. However, Pradhan’s superstitious brother-in-law approached a sorcerer Kailash Sahu and brought him to the DHH.

Sahu, a well known traditional healer, began performing all sorts of rituals inside the DHH. Seeing the sorcerer, another patient Rabi Nayak (40) also approached him and asked him to perform the ritual for him. The sorcerer could be heard reciting the mantras to cure the patient.

Later, Sahu ran away after a nurse threatened him to inform the police.
