Soren, Arbin, Rajeswari shine

Bhubaneswar, November 23: Punga Soren bagged a silver medal, while Arbin Minz and Rajeswari Bhoi got a bronze each in their respective categories on the second day of the 31st National Junior Athletics Championship at Ranchi, Monday.
Punga of Bhubaneswar secured the second position in the U-16 boys’ 100 metres hurdles event with a timing of 13.53 seconds. Harshav Bhosale of Maharashtra (13. 32 seconds) won the gold.
Arbin of Sundargarh finished third in U-14 boys’ triathlon event with 1,725 points and finished behind S Nehal (1,814 points) of New Delhi and Sekhar Poyam (1,770 points) of Chhattisgarh.
Rajeswari of Sundargarh, who is currently training at SAI, Kolkata secured the third position in the U-20 girls’ javelin throw event. She threw the spear to a distance of 42.06 metres. Her teammate Damayanti Murmu of Bhubaneswar finished fourth in the same event.
However, other Oriya athletes disappointed. Jasmi Kisku of Bhubaneswar finished fifth in U-18 girls’ heptathlon. Salmi Kispota of Sundargarh stood fourth in U-18 girls’ Discus while Carmila Barla finished fourth in the U-18 girls’ javelin.
Khurda emerge champs
Khurda emerged overall champions of the Orissa State Open Roller Skating Championships, organised by Bhubaneswar Roller Skating Association at the Kalinga Stadium here Sunday. Khurda took top honours with a total of 24 medals. Ganjam stood second with 11 medals.
