SP swings into probe of youth’s death

Gop: Superintendent of police (SP) Sarthak Sarangi along with a scientific team and a dog squad Wednesday conducted a fresh investigation into the death of a youth whose body was found in a pond near Nagpur market here recently.
The direct involvement of the SP in the investigation of this case suggests that he is quite concerned over the matter and attaching importance to the mystery death of the youth, a source said.
The body of Krushna Maharana, who hailed from a village in Baniasahi panchayat here, was found floating in the pond located near Nagpur market in the morning of December 4. During the search, a cell phone and a trouser were recovered from a place near the pond. Sarangi also seized the SIM cards of three youths who were earlier detained by Gop police in connection with the death.
Notably, Krushna had a quarrel with some youths over a petty issue at Nagpur market November 30. He had been missing since the fight. Later, his family members lodged a complaint with Gop and Ramchandi police. Some locals spotted Krushna’s body floating in the pond which is about 150 metres away from the local market.
Gop inspector-in-charge Sushil Kumar Mishra and other officials have visited the spot and inquired into the matter. The post-mortem of the body was conducted at Charichhaka hospital.
Meanwhile, Krushna’s family members approached the SP and pleaded with him to conduct a probe into the matter. Accordingly, Sarangi and Gop IIC reached the spot in the morning along with a dog squad and scientific team and inquired into the matter. Gop police have detained the three youths and they are being interrogated in custody.
“The probe is underway and we will soon be able to find out the reasons behind the death,” Gop IIC said.
