Bhubaneswar: Scores of special education teacher aspirants from different parts of Odisha Friday demonstrated at Lower PMG in Bhubaneswar demanding appointment as regular teachers.

Holding placards, the aspirants – who are members of ‘Odisha Special Educator Federation for Divyang’ (OSEFD) — sold different food items such as ‘pitha’ and ‘dahibara’ as a unique way of protest.

One of the protesting aspirants said that his degree is of no use and despite several protests, they are not getting any job.

Another aspirant urged the government to come out with appointments and vacancies for special education teachers.

A source said that there should be one special education teacher for every 10 students with special needs in primary school and one for every 15 students in upper primary, medium, and high schools according to Supreme Court guidelines.
