Spinal injury centre at Capital Hospital soon

Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to set up the second Regional Spinal Injury Centre (RSIC) here at Capital Hospital with a view to provide treatment to patients with spinal disabilities.

This will be the second RSIC in the state, the first one being in SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack.

Speaking to the media here Saturday, Health and Family Welfare minister Pratap Jena said that the centre will be set up with an estimated cost of Rs 2.33 crore inside the Capital Hospital.

The centre will have 12 special beds and requisite equipment. However, the operation theatre at the orthopedics department of the hospital would be used for surgery of the spinal injuries of patients, Jena said.

He said that special training would be imparted to the orthotic and prosthetic department staff on the use of assistive technology.

The minister further stated that the state government will open two Auxiliary Nurse Midwifery (ANM) training centres in Gajapati and Malkangiri district. These centres will have capacity of training 50 students each and will start functioning from the academic year 2018-19, he added.
