Bhubaneswar: After achieving 83 per cent Aadhaar enrolment so far, the state government has set a target to achieve 100 per cent Aadhaar enrolment by May next year.
The state had first targeted to achieve 100 per cent Aadhaar enrolment by October 31 this year and then the deadline was extended till December 31.
“So far we have achieved 83 per cent Aadhaar enrolment in the state. We observed that maximum from the left-out are kids and persons below 18 years. To achieve the target, today (Friday) we have decided to open Aadhaar enrolment camps in schools,” Chief Secretary AP Padhi said Friday.
Besides, the government would also provide tablets to the Anganwadi workers for enrolment of children up to the age of 5 years, he said.
While it was targeted to enroll around 4.43 crore persons taking into account the expected population of 2015, Aadhaar numbers of around 3.68 crore have been generated so far. About 50,000 people are enrolling in Aadhar system every day, sources said.
State government has requested Unique Identification authority of India (UIDAI) to enhance the supply of kits and deployment of operators along with necessary equipment.
In August, the state government had announced to make use of Aadhaar mandatory during procurement of paddy with an aim to ensure that farmers get the minimum support price.
