New Delhi: After missing the China Open, shuttler Kidambi Srikanth has now decided to give next week’s Hong Kong Super Series event a miss to be in the best shape for the Dubai Super Series Final in December.
“Srikanth is much better. The injury has almost healed. But we wanted to ensure that he is 100 per cent before he plays a tournament, not even 90 per cent, so we decided to give him another week’s rest. We want him to be in the best nick in the tournament he plays,” India physio C Kiran told this agency.
Srikanth is recovering from a muscle strain. He has been in tremendous form this season winning four Super Series titles while playing five finals.
Two others, Sameer Verma and Ajay Jayaram will also give the Hong Kong event a miss as both are yet to recover from their injuries. Sameer, however informed that he is undergoing rehabilitation at the moment after suffering a shoulder injury during training while preparing for the Denmark Open.
“My injury has healed and I am undergoing rehabilitation now. I will start my rigorous on-court training next month,” said Sameer.
Meanwhile, Singapore Open champion B Sai Praneeth will be back in action at Hong Kong Open after resting for a week. “I had skipped the China Open to take rest. I will play in Hong Kong. The players are leaving tonight (Saturday),” he informed.
