Srimandir interpretation centre work on fast track

Puri: The Tourism department and the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) have expedited the process to complete the construction of an interpretation centre on Srimandir at Srijagannath Ballav mutt here.

The Tourism department and the SJTA have constituted a five-member sub-committee to monitor the interior work of the interpretation centre. A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting, chaired by Gajapati king Dibyasingha Dev, here Tuesday.

The committee comprising Shree Jagannath Temple Managing Committee member Mahimohan Tripathy, senior servitor Rabindra Nath Pratihari and researchers Naresh Chandra Dash, Asit Mohanty and Bhaskar Mishra would guide a Delhi-based private company to carry out the interior work of the interpretation centre.

It is worth mentioning here that the Tourism department had decided to construct an Interpretation Centre at Srijagannath Ballav mutt to provide detail information on the 12th century shrine to tourists.

The Tourism department had constructed a building for the interpretation centre a few years ago. It has recently engaged a Delhi-based company to carry out the interior work of the interpretation centre.

“We have convened a meeting of researchers and experts to deliberate on the interior design of the interpretation centre. A five-member sub-committee has been formed to supervise the interior work,” said SJTA chief administrator PK Mahapatra.

The Gajapati king said tourists would have the opportunity to know the history, tradition and culture of Srimandir from the interpretation centre. “We hope that the project would be completed within a year,” he added.

It is learnt that the interpretation centre would display details on the rituals and festivals at Srimandir. Moreover, it would provide information on the history and culture of the Holy City.
