Staff forced to lock liquor den

Koraput, March 28: Situation became tense in Paraja Sahi in Koraput town Saturday after the residents of the area staged protests demanding to immediately shift a liquor-den running in the area for last 30 years.
Locals alleged that anti-social activities have gone up in the area over last few years. This apart, several persons including some youths have died due to their drinking habit. Moreover, women of the area are not feeling safe to use the road near the liquor den due to presence of anti-social elements.
They further alleged that they had raised the demand for shifting the liquor den with the administration and apprised the collector and excise department about the matter. However, no action was taken on the issue.
They insisted on shifting the liquor-den immediately. The police and excise department staff held talks with the protestors and persuaded them for ending their protests. But, they remained adamant following which the excise department staff locked the liquor-den. The officials announced that the liquor–den would be opened only after the collector took a final decision on the matter.
