Cuttack: Responding to a state government compliance report, the Orissa High Court Monday ordered it to take measures for commencement of classes for medicos of Jaring-based Sardar Rajas Medical College who were shifted to various government and private medical colleges recently.
The court directed the state to arrange extra classes for the medicos to ensure that they do not lag behind their counterparts. Besides, the state was asked to submit an affidavit in the court within two weeks on the steps being taken for renovation of the Sardar Rajas Medical College.
During the hearing, the HC also directed the Medical Council of India (MCI) to submit an affidavit over the increased seats on which the students have taken admission.
A division bench of Justices Indrajit Mohanty and DP Choudhary issued the directions and posted the hearing to January 11.
The state government submitted a compliance report in the court during the hearing, and stated that all the 124 students of the Sardar Rajas have been shifted to various government-run and private medical colleges in the state. While 55 students have taken admission in MKCG Medical College and Hospital, 54 students were shifted to VSS Medical College in Burla and 15 students taken admission in three private colleges, the report said.
On the other hand, the Sardar Rajas medicos said although the admission process has been completed, they have been facing resistance from students of different medical colleges. “Our classes are yet to begin. We are under pressure due to delayed admission and late commencement of classes and are in doubt whether the courses can be completed in time,” the students said.
