Bhubaneswar: Reviewing the outcome of demonetisation of `500 and `1000 notes, Chief Secretary AP Padhi Friday urged RBI to enhance notes supply to banks in Orissa.
Officials of Bhubaneswar postal circle and banks present at the review meeting said there is need for more cash to meet the demand. Padhi urged the RBI authorities to enhance currency supply to the state as per its need.
Padhi assured that a helicopter, vehicles and additional security support from the state government would be provided to transport cash to different places.
“The helicopter is ready. Government would also provide fuel support in the interest of the people. RBI can utilise the chopper service for transportation of cash to remote areas,” Padhi said.
RBI general manager SP Mohanty said the situation in Orissa is better than many other states. The SBI authorities also reported that queues and rush at the banks and ATMs have come down and banks have started functioning normally.
With support of local administration and cash supplies from SBI, branch post offices have started cash operations in 1600 unbanked gram panchayats (GPs).
Padhi advised the officials to start operations in the remaining 400 GPs as well.
Besides, 124 petrol stations in the state have started disbursing cash. Banks and ATMs have started giving new `500 notes, they said.
