State declares holiday on poll days, asks private sector for ‘paid leave’

Bhubaneswar: With the general and Assembly elections beginning in the state tomorrow, the state government has asked management of all business, trade, industrial undertakings, shops and commercial establishments to declare the poll days as regular paid holidays for their employees.

The aim of the move is to facilitate casting of votes by those employed in the private sector.

Lok Sabha and Assembly elections will be held simultaneously in Odisha in four phases – April 11, 18, 23 and 29. Counting of votes will be held May 23.

The Odisha government had, Monday, declared holiday for the employees and magisterial courts (Executive) on the polling day in respective parliamentary constituencies and Assembly segments.

“The government of Odisha is pleased to declare holiday for the employees of the state government offices and Magisterial Courts (Executive) on the day of polling in the respective parliamentary constituencies and Assembly segments in order to enable their employees to exercise their franchise,” an official notification issued in this regard said.
