State nod for 22,224 PMAY housing units

Bhubaneswar: The state government Friday approved proposals to provide houses to 22,224 people in 86 urban local bodies (ULBs) under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY).

The state-level sanctioning and monitoring committee of PMAY headed by Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi has approved the projects at the Secretariat here.

According to official sources, the housing units for the homeless people will be constructed in 86 civic bodies across the state under the scheme. A total amount of Rs 667.61 crore will be spent on providing houses for the poor.

For construction of a house under the scheme, the Centre is providing Rs 1.50 lakh while the state government is giving Rs 50,000. The beneficiary concerned can also spend up to Rs 1 lakh as per his/her need, the sources said.

As many 28,749 families of 88 ULBs and 7,300 slum dwellers of Rourkela and Bhubaneswar, have been covered under the PMAY so far. Besides, the government is implementing projects to provide houses to 6,442 economically weaker section people in the capital city.
