Jajpur/Jajpur Town: The district administration has planned a modern and environment-friendly haat at Bindhan village near Jajpur Municipality area to help traders and farmers of Jajpur town and its adjoining areas trade their goods and vegetables, a report said.
This was stated here by Mihir Prasad Mohanty, additional district magistrate, Jajpur and the chairman, regulated market committee (RMC). He said this while presiding over a meeting Tuesday. Mohanty said construction of the new haat will be taken up soon and will become operational within a year.
The move has been welcomed by the residents. However, lack of permanent haat at Jajpur Road which is a major commercial hub of the district and a gateway to Kalinganagar Industrial Complex with a population of 1.5 lakh has sparked resentment among its residents.
The move was necessitated to accommodate more traders and farmers as the present haat has fallen short of space.
Mohanty said the proposed haat will come up on 2 acres 54 decimals in Bindhan village which will have arrangements for 250 farmers and traders to discharge their business.
Rudra Prasad Mohanty, DRCS cum market director, Salauddin Khan, district civil supplies officer, his deputy Prahallad Sethi, Bhaba Prasad Das, former Jajpur Municipality, chairperson and representative of Jajpur MLA, Santosh Kumar Sethi, DIPRO traders and farmers and their representatives were present at the meeting.
Reports said a haat which functions near Balashram on a temporary basis will be shifted to the proposed haat. In the new haat, platforms will be constructed for traders and farmers to discharge their business, market yards to store their goods and separate places will be earmarked for sale of non-vegetarian food items. Moreover, there will be separate slots for parking of vehicles and store rooms.
Special emphasis will be given on maintenance of cleanliness in the haat. The traders and farmers visiting the haat will be paying monthly tax instead of paying it daily. In the meeting, the blue print of the haat was presented before the traders and farmers inviting their suggestions. Minimum changes will be made in the design of the haat if any suggestion comes from them, Mohanty said.
He said the proposed haat will benefit traders and will help in keeping the environment clean.
