State plans roadshow in B’lore to woo investors

Bhubaneswar, July 22: In a bid to attract investments in IT, electronics and bio-technology sector, the state government has decided to organise a roadshow – ‘Invest Orissa’ – in Bangalore August 26.
A decision to this effect was taken at a preparatory meeting held under the chairmanship of industries minister Debi Prasad Mishra here Friday.
“We have decided to organise a one-day event ‘Invest Orissa’ in the IT city Bangalore August 26. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the roadshow,” Mishra told reporters after the meeting.
The departments concerned would invite the investors to the event, where the CM will have one-to-one meeting with some big players, he said.
“We will highlight our policy initiatives and facilities being provided at Infovalley in Bhubaneswar and National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ), Kalinganagar. Focus will be given to IT and electronics system design and manufacturing (ESDM) sector,” he said.
The government has set a target of inviting about 300 investors to the event. Around 50 interested large and medium industries have been enlisted so far on the basis of their interests in investing in the state, the minister added.
They are from the sectors like engineering, information technology (IT), hardware, aviation, textiles, medical devices, lubricants, aerospace, beverages, telecom, defence, transport and consumer durables among others.
The government has also planned to organise an event to mark Biju Patnaik’s birth centenary at Bangalore in the evening. The centenary would be organised with involvement of the Oriya people living in the city, Oriya Associations and local cultural associations. The Oriya Association of Bangalore has formed a committee to organise the centenary at a separate venue.
Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi, development commissioner R Balakrishnan and industries secretary Sanjeev Chopra, among others, attended the meeting.
