Bhubaneswar: Expressing concern over poor registration of students for JEE Main 2017 due to mandatory Aadhaar enrolment, the state government Friday urged CBSE to extend the last date of submission of applications.
The skill development and technical education (SD&TE) secretary Sanjay Kumar Singh has requested the chairman of Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Rajesh Kumar Chaturvedi to extend the last date from January 2 to January 20, 2017.
“For the first time the validation of Aadhaar number is made mandatory for JEE (Main) candidates. It is observed that this year online registration is very poor compared to the previous years. Till now, 18,873 students have registered for JEE-Main 2017. But, last year 49,000 students registered for this examination by this time,” Singh said in his letter to Chaturvedi.
Therefore, the last date of submission of application form needs to be extended to facilitate enrollment of more candidates with Aadhaar and other papers, he said.
This year, the CBSE has made Aadhaar number mandatory for applying for the JEE-main. If the details printed in the Aadhaar card do not match with the details given by the candidate’s application forms, they stand a chance to be rejected.
For the fourth year in succession, the state has joined JEE-main to facilitate the students seeking admission in engineering courses in various institutions, including IITs and NITs across the country. The students can also get admission in the state colleges as well.
The online application process has begun December 1 while the examination is scheduled for April 2, 2017. The last date for submission of applications is January 2 while fees can be paid up to January 3.
