State seeks nod for 1137 PMGSY projects

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to improve road connectivity in rural areas, the state government has urged the Centre to sanction 1,137 projects under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) for 2017-18 fiscal.
The Rural Development department has recently submitted its proposals to Union ministry of rural development in this regard, sources said Monday.
Out of 1,137 project proposals, 1,120 are roads having length of 3849.02 km while the remaining 17 are bridges having length of around 1.26 km each. The proposals include both new projects and upgradation of existing ones. The state has demanded 234 new road projects and also redevelopment of 886 projects. Similarly, out of the 17 bridge projects, 11 are new and the remaining are upgradation projects, they added.
As per the proposal submitted by the state government, around `1,748 crore would be spent on the road projects while the cost of bridge projects is pegged at `54 crore.
Besides, the state has also demanded `139 crore for maintenance of the PMGSY roads for the current year.
The state has requested the National Rural Roads Development Agency (NRRDA), functioning under the Ministry of rural development, to put the proposals before the pre-empower committee for their early approval.
