Bhubaneswar: The state is exploring possibilities of a ‘sister-state relationship’ with Brazil. A meeting to this effect was held between the state government officials and Indian Ambassador to Brazil, Ashok Kumar Das, at Secretariat here Wednesday.
Das made a presentation about potential and opportunities in Brazil before Chief Secretary AP Padhi. Sources said there could be a lot of cultural, economic, technological and intellectual exchanges between Odisha and Brazil.
The possible areas of collaboration could be Yoga, Ayurveda, Buddhist circuits, handloom, ecotourism, medical tourism, agri-business, gems and jewellery and heritage tourism among several others, the sources added.
Das pointed out that there is an ever increasing demand for Indian generic medicines in Brazil. Besides, state products like tie and die handloom, handicrafts, silver filigree, ginger, turmeric, popper, computer software, aluminum processed products, fertilizers, shrimps and crabs could be good exports to Brazil, Das added.
Odisha may invite Brazilian investors in the sectors like infrastructure, chemicals and agri-business. Both Odisha and Brazil could participate in each other’s international trade fairs and investment meets too, the sources said.
Both can benefit in mutual promotion of startups, ethnic cultural exchanges and sports. Das applauded the state’s efforts for making Bhubaneswar a sports capital.
The state has appointed Industry secretary, Sanjeev Chopra, as the nodal officer to carry forward the dialogue for collaborations between Odisha and Brazil.
