State to hold Smart Odisha Hackathon

Bhubaneswar: The state government has decided to hold a Smart Odisha Hackathon competition for professional and technical students of the state for the first time from November 11 to 15. The event is being held to showcase the talents of the state’s students.

The programme is being organized jointly by the Skill Development and Technical Education department and the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) here, an official said here Tuesday.

The main objective of the hackathon is to attract students towards start-ups, the use of information technology in the day-to-day life of commoners and to foster creativity and entrepreneurship in students, he said.

The competition would be on topics like education, health, disaster management, urban development, environment, skill development, agriculture and industrialization.

Students from 97 engineering colleges and 50 MBA, MCA and pharmacy colleges would participate in the hackathon, he added.

Official sources said the winners would be awarded cash prizes and given an opportunity to develop private and government projects.
