State to host first Pro Half-Marathon

Bhubaneswar, Dec 2: In a bid to spread sports and develop healthy minds among the people of the state, Tata Steel will organise the first Pro Half-Marathon-2016 in the city, January 10. The race will be organised as a part of the National Sports Day festival every year. Tata Steel and sports and youth affairs ministry of the Orissa Government signed a MoU regarding this here Wednesday.
In the presence of, sports and youth affairs minister, Sudam Marndi and vice-president of Tata Steel, Gopalpur project Arun Mishra, sports and youth services department commissioner Saswat Mishra and Tata Steel corporate service department’s vice-president Sunil Bhaskaran signed the MoU. The agreement has been signed for three years.
“Endeavour will be on to convert this race into an international event in future. Eminent runners of the world will take part in the race,” stated Mishra.
“The race carries a total prize purse of Rs 9, 00,000. Champions in the men’s and the women’s category will be awarded with Rs 1,00,000 each,” informed Bhaskaran.
State snooker meet
Jiten Sarangi, Ahsan Ul Haq, Jeet Kishore Das and Satyajyoti Mohanty scripted easy victories against their respective opponents in the 22nd State Billiards and snooker Championships at the Vintage Club here Wednesday.
Jiten thrashed Sitanshu Nanda 3-0 (32-48, 62-12, 60-20) and Ahsan got the better of Govind Sharma by an identical margin 3-0 (91-1, 55-3, 44-38). Satyajyoti got the better of Md Suhel 3-0 (55-46, 64-16, 62-10). Meanwhile in another match, Jeet Kishore Das defeated Rajat Dhal 3-0 and became the first player to qualify for the last eight stage.
