State to restructure cadre of primary school teachers

Bhubaneswar: The state government Thursday decided to restructure the cadre of Primary school teachers and to raise their grade pay. Sources said Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik took the decision to fulfil the long-standing demands of teachers and to improve elementary education in the state.

The government has decided to give at least three promotions to each teacher during their service. According to the government, three posts — senior teacher, graduate teacher and senior headmaster — will be created in elementary cadre and the number of Level-IV and Level-II posts has been increased manifold with pay hike.

The government will appoint graduate teachers to teach Classes VI, VII and VIII. Also, 51,164 posts of graduate teachers have been created in Level-8 (at earlier grade pay of Rs 2,800) for the purpose. The posts will be filled through promotions. Altogether, 72,563 teachers will benefit from the decision, sources said.
