Bhubaneswar, March 28: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has invited all the 18 state-run and private universities of the state to a meeting April 16 to discuss the grading system.
The meeting, which will be held in Gujarat, will be attended by officials of 1,767 educational institutions across the country. The officials will attend an orientation programme and workshop for the effective implementation of the grading system in their respective institutions.
The ministry of human resource development has been making a basic template of the Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and also a credit framework for skill-based vocational courses.
The CBCS will allow students to take courses of their choice, take additional courses to acquire more credits and adopt an interdisciplinary approach to learning.
Utkal University is already implementing the system for a few courses. University officials recently decided to implement the system in constituent colleges to bring transparency in the education system and allow students to choose the courses they want to study.
According to the UGC guidelines, a student will undergo three types of courses — core, elective and foundation. The core courses will be offered every semester and are compulsory, while the effective courses will allow students to choose subjects of their choice.
