State’s revenue collection up by 11%

Bhubaneswar: The state government did well in its fiscal performances up to August this year with a concomitant increase in utilisation of budget allocations and revenue augmentation.
This was revealed at a meeting of all secretaries held here under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi Thursday.
Finance secretary Tuhin Kanta Pandey presented the fiscal updates for discussion. The state government’s total revenue generation up to August end this financial year from all sources crossed `12,000 crore which is about 11 per cent more than the collections made in the same period last fiscal.
Concomitant with expenditure, the revenue augmentation from non-tax sources till August 2017 increased to `2,871 crore thereby marking a growth of around 23 per cent over the same period last year.
Revenue collection from own-tax sources was `9,130 crore which is around 8 per cent more than the previous year.
The chief secretary directed all the departments to have regular intra-departmental review of decisions and their implementations keeping in view the field level dynamics.
Official sources said there is an increase of around 22 per cent in programme expenditure up to August this year compared to the corresponding period last financial year.
The total programme expenditure up to August 2017 was `19,372 crore while `15,864 crore was spent by August end 2016. The total budget utilisation in social sector was `8,967 crore against a total spending of `6151crore during the same period last financial year. The spending in social sector registered a growth of around 47 per cent, the sources said.
Similarly, the budget utilisation in agriculture and allied sector crossed `4790 crore which is around 15 per cent more than the previous year. The spending in infrastructure sector up to August, 2017 touched `6,120 crore against the total spending of `5,974 crore during same period last fiscal.
Taking a department-wise review of the fiscal performances, Padhi advised them to undertake regular intra-departmental review of the decisions taken and their implementation at ground level.
