Steel City youth beaten to death over liquor trade

Rourkela: Bideshi Khuntia (30), a youth of Kharibahal Labour Colony under Sector-3 police limits here, was allegedly beaten to death.

Police arrested accused Chintamani Nayak (44), also a resident of the colony, and produced him in a court after registering a case.

The murder is the fallout of liquor trading, said zonal DSP PK Mishra and the Sector-3 inspector-in-charge at a press meet Wednesday.

According to reports, Bideshi and Chintamani had an argument over liquor business late Monday night. Things turned ugly and an inebriated Chintamani assaulted Bideshi. Later, he left the scene leaving Bideshi in a pool of blood.

The family came to know about the incident in the wee hours of Tuesday and rushed Bideshi to a nearby hospital. Later, he was shifted to the Ispat General Hospital. However, they had to leave for Bhubaneswar for advanced treatment. But Bideshi succumbed to the injuries near Pallahara on the way to the capital.

The accused confessed to have committed the crime, police said.
