Bhubaneswar: Activists of the students’ wing of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee Monday clashed with police while protesting against what they alleged “increasing mismanagement” in hospitals and healthcare in the state.
Privatisation of hospital administration and non-recruitment against vacancies were the prime focus of the protest.
The activists along with many medical students under the leadership of Itish Kumar Pradhan had planned to gherao the Health minister’s residence. However, a clash ensued with the police at Raj Mahal Square when they stopped the students from proceeding. The police subsequently arrested several protesters, including Pradhan. They were later released.
Pradhan further said, “we will protest in front of Naveen Niwas if the government does not answer within 7 days”.
Later, students of Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology (DMLT) and Diploma in Radiology Therapy (DMRT) met Congress leader Niranjan Patnaik to apprise him of their problems and take advice from him.
