Student drowns while taking selfie in Baitarani: No trace of body

Ananadapur/Ghasipura: Even as two days have passed there has been no trace of a student who was swept away in river Baitarani while taking a selfie at a barrage ghat in Ananadapur area of Keonjhar district Sunday.

He has been identified as Bailochan Samal (20), a student of Cuttack-based BOSE Engineering College. Worried family members pleaded with the fire brigade personnel and local police to trace the body.

Even as a fire tender team has been deployed to trace the body, there has been no sign. Locals suspected the body might have been swept away in the river.

According to reports, three students of Cuttack-based BOSE Engineering College – Bailochan Samal (20) of Jajpur Town, Bibhu Prasad Behera (21) of Dhenkanal and Bipu Pradananda Pradhan (18) of Ghashipura – had gone to the Baitarani barrage to have a bath.

Bailochan was taking a selfie at a place where the current was strong in the river.  He accidently slipped and was drawn by the current.

Firefighters swung into a search operation that continued for four hours, but could not trace the student.
