Puri: A 20-year-old college student was found hanging inside her hostel room at a women’s college in Puri Thursday evening, police said Friday.
The deceased was identified as Nandini Bag, a first-year 3 Commerce student of the college and a native of Kadipur village in Rayagada district, the Sea Beach police said.
According to police, the door of room No. 222, where Nandini was staying, remained closed from Thursday morning till evening.
Suspecting something was amiss, some hostel inmates informed the warden. The room was subsequently opened in the presence of a magistrate, following which Nandini’s body was recovered, police said.
The body was sent to the District Headquarters Hospital in Puri for postmortem examination.
Her family members have been informed, police said.
A case has been registered and an investigation is underway. Police said no suicide note was recovered from the room.
