Purushottampur: A 22-year old college student went missing in Rushikulya River during the immersion of a Ganesh idol at Tumbeswar Ghat in Pratapur village of Ganjam district Friday.
The missing student was identified as Sumit Mishra, a final-year Plus III student of Taratarini College, Purushottampur. He had gone to the ghat with nine of his friends from Jharakualli village, about 15 km away. They entered the river and were swept away by a strong current.
Nine managed to swim back to the bank with the help of locals, but Sumit was swept away. A search operation to trace Sumit was underway till 8:30 pm.
