BHUBANESWAR: Mozilla Club BBSR organised two workshops on WebVR by Bhuvana Meenakshi and Web Extension by Kartikcheyan at Patia here Thurday.
Organiser Manzar Hasnain said, “The world is growing at a pace which can be reached majorly by the machines and codes; so what if we get to learn the new technologies and reach the point of development and take it beyond our imagination and a step towards our endeavour of a better world.”
And in the quest of reaching the heights of technology, people must come to terms with WEB-VR and Web Extension. WEB-VR is an open source API (code aimed at developers to help them use a particular system) which is led by major browsers’ engineers, and some independent developers around the world.
The purpose of this API is to enable developers to create Virtual Reality experiences by using the Web, and making it directly accessible from a browser’s URL, with no download or installation process. Coming to the part of Web Extension, this acts as a customisation on the browser by the creator of the extension for the user or by the user itself.
Bhuvana took the students down the lane of Web VR with introductions to the basic of WEB VR. The students got to know a lot about Mozilla, the works Mozilla does upon the theme of open sources.
The next session was on the topic of ‘Web Extension’ by Kartikcheyan who is a Mozilla Tech Speaker and a Mozilla Rep. He enlightened the students about the various add-ons, web extensions along with their work procedure and creation of web extensions.
He even encouraged the students to work and contribute in open source. This would help them get the best out of their works and even make them create web extensions and publish it on an open source platform.
There were more events like “coding competition”, “quiz” and the social media contest in which students participated and won exciting goodies and prizes. The participants were delighted after the day-long session.
