Bhadrak: Students and parents staged a protest over shortage of teachers at a government upper primary school in Odisha’s Bhadrak district Monday and locked the Additional District Education Officer (ADEO) and Block Education Officer (BEO) inside the school premises, sources said.
The incident took place at Talang Government Upper Primary School in the Bhadrak block, where students and parents “have long raised concerns about a shortage of teachers”. They staged the protest alleging that the shortage was affecting regular classes.
After receiving information, the Additional District Education Officer (ADEO) and Bhadrak Block Education Officer (BEO) reached the school and tried to pacify the protesters. However, the agitating students allegedly locked the school gate, leaving both officials inside the premises.
The students refused to open the gate until teachers were appointed, leading to tension at the spot.
The protest ended after the ADEO assured the students that teachers would be appointed within two days. The lock was subsequently removed from the school gate.
