Bhubaneswar, April 2: Around 100 students from various schools of all districts of Orissa took part in a state-level Youth Parliament Competition 2014-15 organised by the directorate of technical education and the State Council of Educational and Research Training (SCERT) was held on the premises of Capital High School in the city Thursday.
“We organise this competition every year with support from the ministry of the Union parliamentary affairs ministry and the school and mass education department. The Youth Parliament Competition was held for the first time in 2009,” said Aparna Mishra, officer-in-charge of the competition, SCERT.
All students took part in a mock parliament session where human welfare, security, social rules and regulation, and financial development were discussed. In a mock question hour, students acting as members of the ruling party and the Opposition enacted Parliament sessions.
“The students fascinated the audience with their over one-hour long performance. The students were trained by specialists for three days before the competition. The script was also written by specialists,” said Akhila Bihari Hota, SCERT director.
Three students, Anwadh Kar, Rameswari Satapathy, and Sweta Pani, were awarded with a trophy and certificate by the commissioner of school and mass education Usha Padhee for their exceptional performance. Rameswari acted as Speaker in the contest. “It is a privilege to be awarded in a state-level competition. I am thankful to my parents and teachers. This trophy was possible only because of them,” said Rameswari, who was applauded by the audience and judges for her brilliant performance. Sweta Pani was also applauded for her role of an HRD minister.
Ten other participants were also rewarded consolation prizes for their performance. Parents were pleased with their wards’ performances. “My daughter took part in this competition. She performed very well as a member of parliament from Maharashtra. I’m proud of her,” said Nirakar Sahu, a member of the audience.
