Sambalpur: In an incredible accomplishment, Ghanashyam Meher (37), a handloom worker of Tikirapada village near Subalaya town in Subarnapur district, entered the Limca Book of Records by drawing 81,000 conches in different shapes on A4-size graph sheets.
The Bandha artist started the project January 1, 2011 and completed it June 30, 2015 after which he had applied to the Limca Book of Records to get his work recognised. His joy knew no bounds when he received a certificate by post July 28. The youth used 2,250 pieces of A4 graph sheet with 36 conches drawn on each of them. About 700 pencils were required to draw them while he spent `20,000 for this unbelievable exploit.
“I’m immensely proud of my achievement, for which I have spent innumerable sleepless nights. I’m satisfied that my hard work has been recognised,” Ghanashyam said.
The Limca Book record holder, a matriculate, has already increased the number of conches to 1.05 lakh and aspires to get a place in the Guinness Book of World Record after the number reaches 1.15 lakh.
Ghanashyam was attracted to Bandha art since childhood. He was awarded by the state government for drawing images of Lord Jagannath (Sunabesha) and Samalei in 2006. He concentrated only on conches after his father’s death. PNN
