Subham included in Orissa Ranji squad

Cuttack:  Young off-spinner Subham Nayak has been included in the 15-member Orissa Ranji team Friday for their match against Andhra Pradesh at Vijianagaram, October 24-27. OCA CEO Bidyut Nayak’s son Subham has found a place in the squad on the basis of his performance in the U-23 level tournaments. He replaced injured batsman Ranjit Singh.

Subham, who was suspended for a year due to age forgery, came back to competitive cricket by playing for Orissa U-23 squad in the Col. CK Nayudu Trophy. So far he has picked up seven wickets including a five wicket haul against Madhya Pradesh in the second game.

Subham has already represented India U-19 side against Afghanistan in 2015. He has previously played for the senior Orissa team in four List A matches in the same year and scalped three wickets.

Orissa are placed in Group C in this year’s Ranji Trophy. Their first tie of the season was drawn against Tripura at the Vikash Ground in Bhubaneswar as the match was hampered due to incessant rain. Both the teams grabbed a point each from the match.

Orissa players have departed for Vijianagaram, Friday led by batsman Govind Poddar and coach Shiv Sundar Das.

The squad: Sandeep Patnaik, Natraj Behera, Santanu Mishra, Abinash Saha, Govind Poddar, Subhranshu Senapati, Biplab Samantray, Saurabh Rawat, Dhiraj Singh, Basant Mohanty, Suryakanta Pradhan, Alok Sahoo, Alok Mangaraj, Deepak Behera, Subham Nayak; Coach: Shiv Sundar Das.
