Cuttack, Dec 8: Riding on some fine bowling by Subham Nayak (5/72) and a fine knock of 75 (138b, 7×4) by Raghunath Malla, hosts Orissa defeated Tripura by five wickets in their under-19 Cooch Behar Trophy game which concluded at the BOSE Ground here Tuesday.
The hosts, who had conceded a first innings lead of 37 runs to Tripura, hit back in style to dismiss the visitors for 200 in their second essay. Subham was well-supported by Ashutosh Das (2/13).
Chasing a victory target of 238, Orissa started well putting on 45 runs for the first wicket. However, the crucial partnership of the game came when Raghunath and Subrat Samal (30) put on 81 runs for the second wicket.
After Raghunath’s dismissal, Saurabh Rawat (43 n o, 27b, 4×4, 2×6) and Rajkishen Patel (21 n o, 19b, 4×4) put on an unfinished stand of 62 runs for the sixth wicket to earn an emphatic victory for the hosts.
Colts in trouble
Orissa were 71 for four after conceding a slender first innings lead to Assam in an under-16 match of the Vijay Merchant Trophy here, Tuesday.
Assam ended their innings at 169 riding on a good knock from Akash Sengupta (65, 109b, 6×4, 3×6) in reply to Orissa first innings score of 162. Binit Mohanty (4/23) and Pritam Jena (4/45) were the most successful bowlers for Orissa.
In their second innings, Orissa faced an early collapse before Khyamsagar Bal (25 batting) rescued them from a tight spot.

Md. Jafar Iqbal will lead a 14-member Orissa cricket team for the 22nd National Cricket Tournament for the visually-impaired which will be played at Gurgaon, December 4-7.

Jafar Iqbal (captain), Sukhram Majhi (vice-captain), Kalia Pradhan, Tapan Kumar Gauda, Fakira Behera, Debraj Behera, Lingaraj Rautara, Nakula Badnayak, Jujhar Bari, Singrai Majhi, Biswanath Khara, Bikash Sahoo, Noor Mohammed, Raghuram Nayak. The team will be accompanied by Chandrasekhar Patnayak (coach) and Birinchi Sahoo (manager).
