Subhranshu, Kadambini bag best cricketer awards

Bhubaneswar: Emerging cricketers Subhranshu Senapati and Kadambini Mahakuda were conferred the prestigious Saheed Sporting Maruti Estate ‘Cricketer of the Year’ awards in the men and women’s segments respectively in a special function here Sunday.

The 20-year-old Subhranshu became the 25th cricketer to get the Saheed Sporting award on the basis of his spectacular performance in the 2016-17 Ranji season. The batsman scored 497 runs in nine matches including a century and three half centuries at an average of 43.61 with 137 being his best score. He was presented with a specially designed trophy, a blazer and cash award of Rs 31,000. An elated Subhransu said that the award will certainly inspire him.

“The recognition will no doubt motivate me to work that much harder,” Subhransu said. “I will try to better my performances in the seasons to come.”

Meanwhile Kadambi became the fourth women’s cricketer to be presented with the award by the club. She was presented a trophy, blazer and cash award of Rs 21,000.

The meeting was presided by Saheed Sporting Club secretary Pankaj Patnaik. Orissa Cricket Association (OCA) executive committee chairman Dhiren Palai and Maruti Estate MD Jitendra Prasad Singh were present as guests and gave away the prizes.
