Brisbane, Jan 13: Indian team’s new kid on the block Barinder Sran admitted that his debut has allowed some ‘pressure to be released’ but at the same time he needs to work on some specific areas including bowling effective ‘slow bouncers’.
The Punjab left-arm seamer who once wanted to pursue a career in boxing, made an impressive debut in the first ODI against Australia taking three wickets.
“I think a bit of pressure that was there before my debut has eased a bit. Now I have to work on specific areas. I tried to bowl slow bouncers but it did not work. I am happy in general that I was able to bowl good areas but I also sprayed a bit at times,” Sran was quoted as saying by ‘bcci tv’ Wednesday.
The left-arm seamer was told about his debut a day before at the team meeting. “It was like a dream come true. You always dream of winning an India cap. Everyone wished me luck and the seniors told me that they feel that I have the potential to do well,” said the 23-year-old who once trained in the same boxing school at Bhiwani where Vijender Singh practiced his art.
Aaron Finch was Sran’s ‘first wicket’ and he said it was an ‘amazing feeling’. “I was very happy. David Warner’s wicket was also important as he is a big player. But I would have been happier if I could have broken the partnership (Steve Smith-George Bailey). If we could have defended and won, I would have been happier,” Sran asserted.
