Suicide aftermath: Laxmidhar’s family finally gets a house

Khurda: The family of Laxmidhar Behera alias Lakhi, who committed suicide Wednesday, got the work order for a house under Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana at the PEETHA camp held here Friday.
Meanwhile, as per the Collector’s order, Khurda Sub Collector Saroj Sahu launched a probe into the suicide Friday. The Balugaon SDPO, Tangi BDO and Tangi tehsildar are assisting in the probe. The investigation report will be submitted to the Collector in two/three days, the Sub Collector said.
“Had Laxmidhar got the work order for the house under the Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana or Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana his life could have been saved. The work order for the house will not pacify his soul now. It will be the best tribute to Laxmidhar if it is ensured that the poor get houses without bribing the officials,” said an intellectual who heard about the tragedy. The people here want the BDO to be suspended to ensure a free and fair probe. Police recovered Laxmidhar’s body from a farmland in Nirakarpur panchayat Wednesday night. They found some dress material and a sachet of pesticide at the spot. On the same day, a video on Laxmidhar went viral wherein he claimed that some officials of Tangi block had demanded a bribe of `15,000 from him to allot a house under the rural
housing scheme.
