Suicide bid by 2 before CM’s grievance cell

Bhubaneswar: Two job aspirants Monday tried to commit suicide in front of the Chief Minister’s grievance office under Capital Police Station limits here over the delay in getting jobs promised to them as per the Rehabilitation Assistance scheme. The aspirants, Satyajit Raul of Salipur and Manoranjan Sahoo of Nimapada, threatened to commit suicide by pouring petrol on themselves. The security personnel prevented the duo and took them to the Capital police station.
General Administration and public grievance department of Odisha, through notification No.23345, amended the Odisha Civil Services (Rehabilitation and Assistance) rules in 1990 which promised to provide jobs to the kin of the former employees of the government who died during their tenure of service.
However, the government also asked the authorities to scrutinize the economic status of the applicant of the bereaved family before giving them a job. Similarly, Mass Education department instructed the DEOs to appoint new employees after the scrutiny within six months.
Raul and Sahoo, along with many others whose parents( mostly teachers) have died before 1990, have also applied under the scheme however they were denied the benefit under the scheme as the deaths had taken place a long time back.
Meanwhile, as a ray of hope, one aspirant from Puri succeeded in getting the job after a legal battle at the tribunal and High Court. Later, when other applicants also demanded the job, the DEOs sought the clarification of the government which they got in 2018.
However, the DEOs of many districts sought further clarification and delayed the process further. The aspirants have been running from pillar to post since then but to no avail.
Meanwhile, the police have released the duo.
