Mumbai: Sukhwinder Singh was born July 18, 1971 in Amritsar district of Punjab. From his childhood, his inclination was towards singing. At the age of 8, Sukhwinder was doing stage performances and today he is celebrating his 48th birthday.
At the age of 13, Sukhwinder composed ‘Tutak Tutak Tutian’ for Malkit Singh. Apart from singing, he has worked as a music director in many Hindi movies.
In the Hindi film industry, Sukhwinder got his first break in the movie ‘Karma’. He had sung many songs in AR Rahman’s music and touched the hearts of many people.
Sukhwinder was honoured with the Best Male Playback Award in the Filmfare Awards in 1999 for ‘Chaiyya Chaiyya’ in the film ‘Dil Se’. Sukhwinder had tried his hand in acting also in 2010’s ‘Kuchh Kariye’.
He had sung ‘Jai Ho’ from the film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. This song was honoured with an Oscar award. The same song also won the Grammy Award for Best Song Written for a Motion Picture, Television or Other Visual Media in 2010.
He has been awarded the National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer at the 62nd National Film Awards for his rendition in the 2014 film ‘Haider’ composed by Vishal Bhardwaj.
Apart from ‘Dil Se’, Sukhwinder has sung in films like ‘Taal’, ‘Biwi No.1’, ‘1947: Earth’, ‘Daag: The Fire’, ‘Jaanwar’, ‘Dillagi’, ‘Moksha’, ‘Thakshak’, ‘Tere Naam’, ‘Apna Sapna Money Money’, ‘Shaadi Se Pehle’, ‘Shabd’, ‘Chak De! India’, ‘Om Shanti Om’ and ‘Black & White’. Most of his songs were super hit.
