Sundargarh shooting: Dhaba owner dead, one critical

Rourkela: A dhaba owner was killed and another person was critically injured by gunshots fired by two miscreants Sunday evening near Malda area under Koira police limits in Sundargarh district of Odisha, a source said.

The deceased — Ramesh Chatamba — was the owner of a dhaba. The injured person was identified as Ram Purti, informed the source.

According to the source, miscreants were riding a two-wheeler without a registration plate Sunday evening. They spoke to the dhaba owner for a couple of minutes. Then the two miscreants fired as many as four rounds of bullets at Chatamba and Purti.

The Dhaba owner died on the spot while Purti sustained serious injuries, said the source.

Purti has been admitted to SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack for treatment.

Although the precise cause of the shooting is still unclear, it is suspected that it may have been resulted of past animosity between the assailants and the victims.

Koira police have launched a probe in this regard.
