Superb Subhasis emerges champion

Bhubaneswar, Dec 20: Subhasis Barik emerged champion in the Kendrapara Open Chess Tournament, which concluded at Kendrapara, Sunday.
Subhasis of Bhubaneswar hold Ashirwad Singh of Nayagarh in the eighth and the final round. With a total of seven points he clinched the title.
Soumyaranjan Mishra of Khurda also got the same number of points, but he had to be satisfied with the runner-up finish on the basis of tie-breaker. Smaraki Mohanty of KIIT finished third with 6.5 points.
Other results: Vaibhav Mishra lost to Satyabrata Kar, Gitashree Biswal drew with Priyabrata Singh Samanta, Abinash Mishra drew with WCM Shreya Smruti Mohanty, Kshirod Samal drew with Somesh Rath, Lorence Pradhan bt Debadatta Samantray.
Sambalpur finish runners-up
Sambalpur University finished runners-up in the East Zone Inter-University Women’s Hockey Championship despite thrashing Ranchi University 3-0 in their last match at the Biju Patnaik Hockey Stadium in Rourkela, Sunday. Biranjana, Swayangsudha and Rashmi scored a goal each for Sambalpur.
Sambalpur had to be satisfied with the second place finish with seven points. Ranchi University emerged champions with eight points. VVSP Jounpur finished third with a total of four points.
