Bhubaneswar: Around 6,000 female National Service Scheme (NSS) volunteers will collect nutrition-related data of children enrolled at nearly 23,000 Anganwadi Centres (AWCs) across Odisha under the first phase of the Suposhit Odisha Mission, aimed at contributing to a healthier and better-nourished state, officials said.
A training programme for the volunteers was organised jointly by the State NSS Cell, Higher Education (HE) department and Women and Child Development (W&CD) department at Soochana Bhawan here Tuesday.
District nodal officers and programme officers also attended the programme. The training was aimed at familiarising NSS volunteers with their responsibilities and helping them accurately collect nutrition-related information of children at AWCs.
W&CD department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Mrinalini Darswal said the training would help volunteers carry out their responsibilities effectively and contribute to the Suposhit Odisha Mission. “The campaign will see around 6,000 female NSS volunteers covering 23,000 AWCs in the first phase, making the NSS network an important part of the state’s efforts to strengthen nutrition-related interventions,” a senior official said.
HE department Commissioner-cum-Secretary Aravind Agrawal congratulated the volunteers participating in the campaign and said their contribution would play an important role in building a healthy and well-nourished Odisha.
