Surat people search diamonds in streets; video goes viral

Surat: In India, people often react emotionally after hearing something unbelievable and sometimes even argue with people without verifying the facts. However, this is why, at times, people land into soup and later feel cheated after being entangled in the fraud.

A recent incident reported from Gujarat’s Surat is the latest example of this trend. A viral video shows a shocking scene in Varachha area, a major centre of diamond trade, where a crowd gathered on the road in search of diamonds amid rumours that the diamonds had accidentally fallen on the road.

This incident reported September 24 created a stir in the diamond market. The video quickly gained popularity on the internet as people shared the incident on platforms like ‘X’.

The rumour spread that a businessman had unknowingly thrown a packet of diamonds worth crores of rupees on the road. Due to this hoax, the search for these precious gems started. People passing by the street stopped there and began searching for diamonds. Not only this, some people even tried to see whether these diamonds were genuine or not. Pictures and videos of people searching the streets of the market for diamonds went viral.

Some individuals even began collecting dust from the streets. Despite the excitement, many were disappointed to learn that the diamonds they found were actually American diamonds, which were commonly used in counterfeit jewellery and saree work. A user shared the video with the caption, “People flocked to find the scattered diamonds in the diamond city of Surat, but later found out that they were fake.”

A social media, one user wrote, “Okay, the road is clear now, whether we find the diamonds or not.”
