Surgery ward patients battle it out in cold

Rayagada: Even as patients are admitted every day to the surgery ward of the district headquarters hospital here, they are made to negotiate the bone-biting cold as doors have not been fixed to the windows of the ward, a report said.

However, the authorities have put up mosquito nets in the window frames to prevent vector-borne diseases, it was learnt.

Many patients including those suffering from burns and requiring emergency attention are admitted to this ward. But there are no doors in the windows in three sides of the hall. The patients were found in a miserable state to battle chill.

Though many doctors and health department officials visit the ward regularly, door-less windows never catch their attention, alleged attendants.

While patients are given bedsheets, their winter clothes fail to keep them warm as they are left exposed to extreme cold condition, said a patient.

The patients urged the DHH authorities to fix doors to the windows to give them respite during winter.    PNN
