Swayams drops to joint third

Puri, April 6: IM Swayams Mishra dropped a place to joint third position after playing out successive draws in the eighth and the ninth round of the IInd Triple C All India Fide Rating Chess Championships here Wednesday.

Swayams played out drab draws against his Haryana counterpart IM Himanshu Sharma and statemate Rakesh Kumar Jena respectively. Swayams is sharing the third position with seven others including Rakesh with seven points apiece.

Gusain Himal of Chandigarh is leading the pack with eight points in his kitty. IM Himanshu and Abhisekh Das of Jharkhand are sharing the second position with 7.5 points each.

Thrashing wins

Paradip Port Trust (PPT), Khurda, SAG Sundargarh (SAGS) and JSPL scripted crushing wins over their respective counterparts in the Nalco Cup State Hockey Championship at Cuttack, Wednesday.

PPT and SAGS thrashed their respective opponents Cuttack and Jagatsinghpur by an identical 6-0 margin. Khurda crushed Jharsuguda 6-1 and JSPL triumphed over Mayurbhanj 4-1.

Bidanasi FC victorious

Bidanasi FC pipped Choudhary Bazar FC by a solitary goal in a match of the Cuttack City U-14 Boys’ Football Championships at the Cricket Academy Ground in Cuttack, Wednesday. Debasis Das (45th minute) scored the all important goal of the match.

In another encounter, Darga Bazar FC and Sartul FC played out a drab goalless draw.
